Save water this spring
A wet winter has enabled groundwater stores to recover after last year’s hot, dry summer. But that doesn’t make it any less important to be careful with this vital resource.
We all still need to be careful with water to help safeguard supplies.
Water use is lowest in the winter and highest in the summer. As the days get longer taking simple steps to use less water can make a big difference.
Balancing water supplies throughout the year
Typically, in summer we have lower rainfall but higher demand for water. In the colder months, there’s more rain and less demand.
Autumn and winter are when the River Eden is full enough for us to be able to take water to fill the Bough Beech Reservoir.
The latter part of the year is also when underground aquifers are filled, as water seeps into the ground.
Using just a little less water in the colder months helps these resources to recover, so we can start next summer with the fullest possible water resource.
